Men’s tennis struggles on the road

March 7, 2021 by Connor Mullins

The Wildcats men’s tennis team struggled on the road this weekend. The team secured a lone victory over UTRGV but struggled with two losses to Rice and UTSA.

A four to three victory over future WAC opponents UTRGV saw the Wildcats secure their first away win of the season.

“Overall, it was a rough road trip,” head coach Juan Nunez said. “The teams we played were tough and the weather wasn’t great. Our guys handled it really well and competed hard. UTRGV fought hard and that was as good of a road win as we could’ve had.”

The Wildcats endured a lot of adversity and Coach Nunez is proud of their energy.

“That blue collar mentality really stood out,” Nunez said. “Every time they lost a point, the energy and grit was there. To see them face adversity and compete was really good. This weekend will go a long way in molding us as a team these next four years.”

Currently, the Wildcats control an undefeated home record. They now face New Orleans this Thursday to kick off the conference slate.

“The goal for this road trip was to prepare us for the conference,” Nunez said. “I think we got everything we were looking for.”

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
