I love authentic Mexican food. So you can imagine my delight when I discovered Casa Herrera.
Owned by Chris and Liz Herrera, the restaurant moved from Burro Alley to its current location, 4109 Ridgemont Drive, in 1992. The restaurant strives to keep its reputation as being an authentic family-owned establishment. In fact, don’t be surprised to be greeted by a member of the Herrera clan.
As soon as you pull into the parking lot, the building exudes authenticity, from the outside patio to the “cartoon-style” mural of the man pulling a stubborn donkey. The inside décor greets hungry patrons with colorful tile mosaics, paintings and displays of different styles of cocktail glasses.
All the decorations would be useless if the menu didn’t offer an extensive variety of Mexican dishes. Casa Herrera offers the traditional Mexican fare, such as enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, tacos, and flautas.
They also have unique takes on traditional dishes, such as the Lizzy plate. The Lizzy plate is basically cheese enchiladas topped with seasoned ground beef and refried beans. Then the delicious pile is smothered in a rich chili con queso sauce, shredded lettuce, and a dollop of guacamole. When it’s complete it is served fresh and hot to your table, ole!
The main dish isn’t the only thing on the menu that gets your mouth watering. Casa Herrera offers homemade sopapillas, tortillas, and chips and salsa. The salsa is amazing. It is a feat for me to try to not ruin my appetite when the basket of chips is set in front of me.
Yet another thing that makes Casa Herrera even more appealing is its’ lunch buffet. A meager $6.95 will give you access to a fresh, hot all-you-can-eat Mexican paradise. Everything from enchiladas, tacos, and burritos to sopapillas and pastries is offered to make your lunch hour the best part of your day.
Reasonable priced, Casa Herrera is an amazing place to take a date or group of friends. Try it today, I’ll see you there.
