The Students’ Association finalized its 2011-12 cabinet last week, with the selection of its chief development officer, chief financial officer and chief communications officer.
Rebecca Dial will serve as CDO, Heath Bracken will serve as CFO and Helga Sierra will serve as CCO.
SA Executive President Connor Best, junior political science major from Sacramento, Calif., said 16 students applied for the three positions. Though there were not strict qualifications, Best and other officers interviewed applicants with questions regarding personality.
“We wanted to see how they work in different settings,” Best said. “We want people we can trust, people that will do a good job.”
Dial, junior political science major from Lexington, S.C., said she is looking forward to working with the SA team.
“I’m excited that I get to work with other officers and help them get involved with other student groups and help the student body,” said Dial, who ran earlier for SA vice president.
Bracken, sophomore marketing major from Salado, said his experience in SA will help him in his new position.
“I really enjoy it, I’m a financing and marketing major, so it’s what I deal with,” Bracken said. “Through the classes I’ve taken and being involved in SA financial committee, I’ve seen this is something I enjoy.”
Sierra, junior management major from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, said she is ready to help SA get its name out.
“This past year I’ve been working with Office for Multicultural Enrichment as a media specialist,” Sierra said. “I was able to work with different multicultural groups in the advertising and public relations area. This position allows me to use the things I’ve learned as a job. It’s more fulfilling.”
Sierra said her perspective as an international student would be useful to SA.
“I think I bring a different perspective after working with multicultural groups,” Sierra said. “Being an international student, it comes naturally to me it’s something that could benefit SA.”
