The 11-5 ACU volleyball team will travel to Wichita Falls this weekend to compete in the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament.
This weekend’s LSC Crossover Tournament will see the league’s North Division teams playing against South Division squads. All 12 LSC teams will play three matches each.
Play will begin Friday at 1 p.m. when the Wildcats open up against Texas Woman’s University. Also on Friday, ACU plays Midwestern State at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Wildcats battle Texas A&M-Commerce at 3 p.m.
For the second time this season, ACU will be matched up against Texas Woman’s and Midwestern State. The Wildcats opened up their home season on Sept. 9 with a three-set victory over Midwestern State. On Sept. 12, the Wildcats defeated Texas Woman’s in a three-set victory, also in Moody Coliseum.
Sophomore Lindsey Martin said the team is playing with a lot of confidence right now.
“So far this season, the team has performed really well,” Martin said. “We are doing a lot of things right, and we are playing each point with urgency. We all discussed how we truly have a different, more confident and assured mindset of walking away from every match with a win.”
The confidence became evident after ACU won nine of its last 10 matches. Martin said the team expects to play well this weekend, but still has a few things it needs to work on.
“As a team we need to increase the level of communication,” Martin said. “We really need to talk more. Communicating in our sport makes all the difference in the world. It makes everyone personally more aware and alert to what is going on, and through that alertness you are able to talk one another through the game.”
ACU is led by senior Haylee Hartline and sophomore Michelle Bernhardt. ACU will next compete in Lawton, Okla., in a LSC crossover match against Cameron.
