The Campus Activities Team will not sponsor Party on the Patio this semester to make room in the budget for an extra movie.

CAT normally brings three free movies to campus per semester, but it will bring a fourth this fall at the expense of the Party on the Patio, which featured student musicians every other Wednesday at the Hard Wood Cafe.

Party on the Patio may return in the spring, though.

“We are still considering other ways to incorporate on-campus bands,” said Laura Gore, senior sociology major from Orange and CAT intern.

Performers were normally paid from $75 for a solo act to $125 for a band of three or more. Movies generally cost from $850 to $950 for one day. Sponsoring a semester full of musical acts would have made it impossible to bring another free movie to campus, which more students will attend than Party on the Patio.

Party on the Patio was “the only opportunity I had to play without borrowing someone else’s equipment,” said Tavis Branam, senior music education major from Santa Clarita, California. “It was an easy way for anybody to get up and show people they could play.”

Spider-Man and The Rookie have already been shown, Signs will be shown Oct. 11 and a fourth movie will play Nov. 22. All movies start at 6:30 and 9 p.m. this semester. Drinks, candy and popcorn will continue to be 25 cents all semester.

Students will still need to show their ID cards to gain free admission to the movies.

ID checks were implemented this year to keep those from outside the ACU community from taking seats in the auditorium from students, faculty and their children. Students are encouraged to bring their Treadaway Kids, Wildcat Kids or little brothers and sisters, though.

CAT will continue to sponsor other activities for students this fall.

Unstress Day will be Oct. 4, featuring inflatable games in the mall area on campus.

Sadies Week will be Nov. 7-12, beginning with a movie at the Paramount. CAT will also sponsor a blood drive Monday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
