The ‘Cats came up short against Angelo State Wednesday night at Poly Wells Field.
Sara Vaughn and Courtney Flanary each smashed solo home runs, but the team still lost 8-3.
The Wildcats drop to 27-23 overall and 11-13 in the Lone Star Conference after the loss. ASU improves to 31-15 and 16-8.
It was Vaughn’s fourth home run of the year and it cut the Rambelles lead to 2-1 in the third.
Flanary’s shot went over the wall in left-center field with one out and made the score 4-2 in the fourth inning. It was her eighth bomb of the season.
ACU loaded the bases in both the fifth and seventh, however it failed to score over one run either time.
Angelo State crossed the plate two times in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings off starting pitcher Caitlyn Crain (13-11).
They added two more runs off relievers Shelby Hall and Peyton Mosley during the seventh.
The team will be back on the field Friday at 7 p.m. for the beginning of a three-game series against Midwestern State University. It is the ‘Cats final regular season series of the year.
Seniors Crain, Hall, Keanna Winkfield and Vaughn will be honored before Saturday’s doubleheader.
