Men’s and women’s tennis in record wins against UCA and Hardin Simmons

April 21, 2015 by Hannah Little

The women’s tennis team shut out University of Central Arkansas 4-0 last Saturday.

The match was played at a neutral-site at Burns Park, with the location change caused by the persistent threat of rain in Conway, Arkansas.

The Wildcats defeated the Bears in doubles with the duo of senior Brittney Reed and junior Kaysie Hermsdorf defeating their opponent 8-5. Freshmen Lucile Pothier and Carli Knezevich also won 8-3.

Reed and Hermsdorf finished their spring season out at 16-2 in doubles, including an 11-2 dual record at the No. 1 position and a 7-1 record in the Southland Conference.

In singles play, the Wildcats swept the Bears with wins contributing from the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 positions from sophomore Erin Walker, Pothier, and junior Nada Marjanovic. Marjanovic finished out the season in singles with a 13-1 record. Walker and Pothier also finished shortly behind with 12 wins.

The men’s tennis team finished out its spring season against non-conference opponent, Hardin Simmons University. The Wildcats swept the Cowboys 7-0. The shutout victory was the Wildcats’ third of the spring season and tenth overall win of the season.

In singles, the Cowboys couldn’t score more than three sets. However, the closest set was in doubles at the No. 1 position with senior Guilherme Gesser and sophomore Nico Agritelley. The Cowboys match against the No. 1 duo finished in an 8-4 Wildcat loss.

Agritelley finished the dual season with a 19-7 record was scored a perfect 6-0 at the No. 2 position in singles. Junior Marco Bensley finished with a 15-9 record with 11 of those wins coming from Bensley at the No. 6 position.

The Wildcats will return to play next week for the 115th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament. There, a few of the Wildcats will represent ACU in the Independent College division, since ACU is still not eligible to participate at the Southland Conference Champions.
