The softball team will play its final home series of the season. The Wildcats hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the three game conference matchup.
ACU is coming off a win against Sam Houston State in which the Wildcats fought in extra innings for the 3-2 road win. It was the only win of the series, as the Bearkats took games one and two, 5-4 and 5-2.
Freshman shortstop Peyton Hedrick, had her 10th home run of the season in the series finale. Sophomore outfielder Taylor Brown posted her ninth triple of the season in game one, along with an RBI and a run.
The Wildcats are 4-17 in conference play while the Islanders sit at .500 with a record of 10-10 in the Southland.
TAMCC is coming off of a loss to Texas State in eight innings as the Islanders came back from a four run deficit to force extra innings. The Islanders have won two of their past three Southland Conference series and are winners of three of their past five.
Freshman outfielder Brianna Barnhill, slammed the game-winning hit in the final game against SHSU, so look for head coach Bobby Reeves to use her to get them out of a pinch.
Junior pitcher Julia Montoya, pitched her way out several jams during the series, allowing for her team to take the win. She is scheduled to start game one of the series. Against Sam Houston, she appeared in each game and recorded 8.1 innings pitched while giving up eight hits, seven walks and seven runs, five of them being earned. She owns a 6-10 record with an ERA north of 7.50.
Senior pitcher Emily Seidel will get the start in game two, but will likely see time on the mound in game one. Throughout the past series, Seidel totaled 10.2 innings pitched with 17 hits, seven walks and five earned runs. Despite getting a no decision in game three, Seidel was on a tear. In a full six innings, she allowed zero runs on seven hits and was able to work out of trouble through the entire game.
Seidel, who was one of four student athletes of the month named by ACU, has said all season that in order to help her team out she has to get ahead of the count and take control of the mound.
First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Friday at Polly Wells field with the second game to follow right after. The Wildcats will close the series against the Islanders on Saturday at 12 p.m.
