Women’s social club GATA is collecting items to put into shoe boxes that will be delivered through Operation Christmas Child to underprivileged children around the world.

This is the fourth year for GATA to be involved with Operation Christmas Child and they are happy to carry on the tradition, said Audrie Trevino, GATA chaplain.

“We really like this organization for what it stands for. It really gives kids in need, in America and overseas, a Christmas. We know that this gift is going to make them smile, so who wouldn’t want to donate to something like this?” Trevino said.

“By serving others we show them Christ,” said April Young, GATA president. She said the club is excited to get not only ACU involved, but the entire community of Abilene.

GATA has a table set up in the McGlothlin Campus Center where members are passing out flyers and giving more information. Near the welcome desk in the Campus Center, there is a box where anyone can drop off donations, Trevino said. The donations should include necessities for children, such as hygiene items and school supplies, but may also be small toys like balls and crayons.

GATA reached out to the ACU community and each social club on campus, giving them the opportunity to help out. They could choose to donate a quantity of items or they could make their own boxes.

“We would love for everyone to get involved,” Trevino said.

With their slogan “Four for 400,” Young said the club hopes to collect 400 shoe boxes because this is the fourth year of GATA’s involvement with Operation Christmas Child.
