Softball to play at home against Incarnate Word

April 7, 2016 by Abbey Bowling

The softball team will take on University of the Incarnate Word (14-20) in Abilene this weekend on Friday and Saturday.

The Cardinals are currently 5-7 in the Southland Conference and have won their last three games, while the Wildcats are 13-17 overall and 7-5 in conference. When the teams played last year, ACU came out with a shutout win and a pair of losses in San Antonio.

The Wildcats are coming off a three-game series against first-place McNeese, where they lost two and won one. The first game ended in a 4-2 win where ACU handed McNeese their first loss in the Southland Conference this season. Redshirt sophomore Hannah Null pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on five hits and two strikeouts. Senior Casey-May Huff, junior Alli Spivey and senior Demi McNulty all drove in runs for the Wildcats.

The second game went into extra innings but ended in a close 4-3 loss. Sophomore Peyton Hedrick scored all three runs, including a two-run homer and an RBI-double. The last game ended in a 5-1 loss, with ACU’s only run coming from a first inning home run by Hedrick, bringing her season total to seven. Head Coach Bobby Reeves said the team played well against a great team.

“The one thing I’m proudest about is this team never quits competing,” Reeves said.

The team will finally be back in Abilene this weekend after traveling to Louisiana last weekend and Arkansas the weekend before.

“When we have great crowds, it helps us play, so everyone come out and support us,” Reeves said.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
