ACU will begin a three-game away span this week as they travel to Beaumont, Tx. on Tuesday to take on the Lamar Cardinals.
Lamar is riding a three-game losing streak that has them sitting at 3-4 in Southland Conference games and 3-16 overall for the season. ACU is 6-3 in Southland Conference games and 7-17 on the season. The Wildcats are on a two-game winning streak after defending their undefeated home record this past week.
“I think we have done a good job of working on some things that we need to improve on in order to help us win matches. I think as long as we stay disciplined and focused on what we need to do, we will be successful.” siad head coach Jason Bibler.
ACU is currently tied for third in the conference with Northwestern St. and Lamar is tied for seventh with three other teams. All of Lamar’s wins have come against conference opponents, beating New Orleans, Houston Baptist, and Central Arkansas.
The Cardinals rank seventh in conference games in hitting percentage with a .201. ACU fell down two spots to ninth with .186. ACU makes it up on defense, allowing their opponents to only hit .173, while Lamar gives up a .225 hitting percentage to their opponents. The Wildcats have slowly declined in blocks these past few games and has dropped to third in blocks for the conference with 2.56 blocks per set. Lamar sits right behind them at 2.31 blocks per set.
The Wildcats have two players averaging over a block per set with Lauren Walker at 1.10 and Lexi Mercier at 1.06.
“Our expectations are that we will work hard each day as we get ready for our next few matches.” Bibler said. “We have to be able to execute well and be able to finish matches well, once we get into the 20’s. That’s what we will continue to work on and continue to get better at.”
ACU travels to Natchitoches, La. to take on Northwestern State, Thursday before taking on Central Arkansas in its final road match of the season.
