Winter weather arrives

December 4, 2009 by Tanner Knauth

Abilene saw its first snow of the season as temperatures dropped below freezing Tuesday night. Patrick McCullough, meteorologist for the San Angelo National Weather Service, said although it rarely snows in Abilene, this is the time of the year to expect it. "To see snow twice in one week rarely happens in this area," McCullough said. McCullough ... [Read More…]

Graduate recalls lifelong lessons

December 4, 2009 by Tanner Knauth

Shakespeare knew what he was talking about when he wrote, "Parting is such sweet sorrow." Next Friday will be my last day as a student at Abilene Christian University, and I find myself conflicted. After all my complaining there's nothing to do in Abilene, after years of waking up for 8 a.m. classes and pulling all-night study sessions, I find ... [Read More…]

Winning required

November 6, 2009 by Tanner Knauth

"I love winning - it's like, you know, better than losing," says pitcher Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh in the baseball film, Bull Durham. Truer words have never been spoken; winning is definitely better than losing. But the blessing of winning is also a curse. You see, wins are like crisp $100 bills - the more you have, the more you want. Coach Chris ... [Read More…]

Lucky No. 13, Wildcats extend winning streak

November 4, 2009 by Tanner Knauth

The Wildcat volleyball team came from behind to beat Southeastern Oklahoma State 3-1 in its biggest win of the season Saturday night. ACU was ranked seventh in the region entering the match, and Southeastern sat in tenth place. The victory pushed the Wildcats' record to 25-5, including 10-1 in conference play, and will probably vault them into the ... [Read More…]

It’s time to move on

October 30, 2009 by Tanner Knauth

It's time to move on. For the last several years, baseball has been associated with steroids, and Mark McGwire was smack in the middle of the controversy. I remember McGwire sitting in front of Congress not wanting to talk about the past. I know how that reflected poorly on baseball. I also know McGwire was so ostracized for his role in the steroid ... The Wildcats proved to be too much for Dallas Baptist on Tuesday night. ACU swept the Lady Patriots 25-14, 25-21 and 27-25, bringing ACU's record to 18-5 on the season. Sophomore Jennie Hutt led the team with 13 kills. Fresh from consecutive LSC Co-Setter of the Week honors, junior Ijeoma Moronu added 33 assists to her team-leading total of ... [Read More…]

ACU became part of the NCAA Division II in 1983. Nearly three decades later, the Wildcats are finally atop the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) poll as the No. 1 team in the nation. A fortunate conjunction of events propelled ACU to first place today with 23 of 25 first place votes. The Wildcats defeated Angelo State 38-14, and an ... [Read More…]

Did Knox really score on his kickoff return

October 9, 2009 by Tanner Knauth

Some questions have been raised as to whether Johnny Knox celebrated prematurely on his 102-yard kickoff return. Replays show that the ball may not have crossed the goal line before Knox tossed it over his shoulder. Bears coach Lovie Smith was quick to point out that the Lions didn't try to challenge the play. ... [Read More…]

Soccer remains unbeaten in LSC

October 7, 2009 by Tanner Knauth

The Wildcat soccer team still has a zero in the loss column after two closely contested games against conference foes over the weekend. ACU played to a 2-2 tie against Northeastern State on Friday, before shutting out East Central Sunday afternoon. The Riverhawks jumped out to an early lead before ACU's leading scorer, Courtney Wilson, was able to ... [Read More…]

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
