This is my third year at ACU, and in the past three years I've had three different roommates. A perfect record! Or not, depending on how you look at it. Each of my roommates has been extraordinarily different from the others and, more importantly, from me. My first was one of the snappiest dressers on campus, and yet our room was an absolute ... Recycling change must come from top
Last semester we voiced our concern over the lack of a recycling initiative on campus. Today, we would like to turn our attention to specific reasons why "green" is a color often overlooked at ACU. Both regional and institutional norms make recycling (along with reducing and reusing) more a hassle than a solution. This means that if recycling is ... [Read More…]
Gardner hall decorations misinterpreted
I am the Gardner RA who so inexcusably decorated my hall with a "Brides of Christ" theme. I apparently failed to communicate well what my actual intentions were for the decorations, although most seem to understand when they read the Bible verses on the wall and realize who decorated it. With all due respect to the author of the original letter, I ... [Read More…]
Summer teaches lessons in laziness
I knew something was wrong this summer when my mother informed me that I had a dentist appointment the next day at 11 a.m., and I called to change it because I didn't want to wake up that early. It was only when every ounce of my effort scarcely got me into the car for my 3 p.m. appointment that I realized the severity of my condition. I'm almost ... [Read More…]
Job well done is job never done
I had a job once, working in heating and air conditioning. They hired me mostly to clean the floor. I'm not talking about hardwood floors, or bathroom tile or something else simple and domestic. The floor I had to clean was the floor of a boiler room. There was dirt so thick that when you walked on it, you left footprints - like you were walking ... [Read More…]
iPad serves as learning tool
Across campus, more and more classes are trying out the iPad as a learning tool and textbook alternative. While only a small portion of the student body currently has the new Apple product, we suppose this will soon change. Students struggling to pay for tuition are unlikely to be keen on shelling out an extra $499 for the cheapest iPad. But when ... [Read More…]
Remembering Lombardi, 30 years later
Homeskool Valedictorian Jeff Craig Vince Lombardi had a way with words. The legendary former coach of the NFL's Green Bay Packers, Lombardi's legacy may very well be found in his skills as a motivator - and his having won three NFL championships and the first two Super Bowls along the way. Lombardi died 30 years ago today at the young age of ... [Read More…]
Column: Rally Underscores False Motives
Glenn Beck is on a mission. This past Saturday, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave his famous " I Have A Dream Speech," Glenn Beck spoke to a crowd of over 100,000 people to promote his show on Fox News - I mean, to "restore honor" to America. Unlike the man who stood on those steps 47 years ago to promote ... [Read More…]
Food court lines frustrate students
Trying to grab a quick bite to eat after Chapel is an impossible task. With several thousand hungry students leaving Chapel and attempting to eat lunch at the same time, it's no wonder the food services around campus become overwhelmed. Dining Services has taken steps to shorten lunch lines, but they should do more to help students get through the ... [Read More…]
Column: ‘Edit-Undo’ key fails to cure-all.
My two favorite keys on my laptop are "command" and "z." When pressed at the same time, whatever mistake I just made disappears. If I typed a bad sentence, I can simply undo it. If I accidentally delete a picture in InDesign, I can immediately bring it back with those two precious keys. The ability to instantly undo something after it goes awry is ... [Read More…]
