It's finally here. We are closing in on the opening of the new Wildcat Stadium, and for the first time since 1958, the football team will be playing on campus. A total of $44 million went into building the stadium, which demonstrates ACU's commitment to bringing the structure to campus. While some might say that too much favoritism is ... [Read More…]
Our definition of tolerance is close-minded
Nothing is more valuable today than tolerance. Or so we think. Everywhere we turn, we're told to embrace the idea that anyone's idea, lifestyle or opinion is valid. It's okay for anyone to believe and practice anything. Unless you believe it okay to disagree with someone. Here is precisely where our modern definition of tolerance breaks ... [Read More…]
Repealing DACA could be the next best thing for immigration reform
There are four kinds of people on a shooting range. There's the steady people who say "Ready, Aim, Fire!" There's the guy who says, "Ready, Fire! Aim....oops." There's the cautious person who says, "Ready, Aim....oh wait, wait. Ready, Aim.....Ready, Aim." And then there's the guy who says, "Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire!" If these four types of ... [Read More…]
Letter to the Editor: Bubbles aren’t designed for growth
I write today in the hopes that you will share this message with your readers. Whether they agree with me or not is less important, although I do hope it will bring about a new discussion on campus relating to ACU’s policies towards LGBT students. Unlike most who have chimed in on this subject, I’m uniquely qualified to do so. As a ... [Read More…]
Editorial Board – What SA does and what they should be doing instead
RATED R Haley Remenar What SA does: Freshmen in SA Congress typically think they are going to do great things for the student body, but they soon realize the bulk of their job involves long meetings, voting on wordy bills and helping plan overrated events. Meanwhile, upperclassmen in business or political science realize SA Congress allows ... [Read More…]
If football doesn’t win, can ACU thrive at the Div. 1 level?
It's a question many alumni and students are asking. Can ACU excel at the Div. 1 level, even if football continues to struggle? Of course, the immediate answer is, absolutely. Or maybe it's hopefully. But let me help you make a more educated decision. For the last 10 months everything has been centered around the new Anthony Field at Wildcat ... [Read More…]
Column: Joel Osteen or Panda Express?
"They may not see the incredible in you right now. Keep shining. They will.," reads a tweet by @OsteenOrPanda. This is probably my favorite Twitter account of all time despite not posting any new content since 2015. It's satirical, but pretty realistic at the same time. I'm also convinced Osteen stared himself down in the mirror and spoke these ... [Read More…]
Cherishing little memories
Dear Celina, The last time I saw you, I helped you move out of Morris Hall. The last thing I wanted to do was go back to that hall (which had not been very good to me my sophomore year), but I wanted to see you before you left for the summer. So I helped you carry heavy boxes of clothes and books and GATA stuff. GATA stuff in Morris Hall was ... [Read More…]
Spiritual Formation must be more than just a number
MyACU tells me I have 2/55 Spiritual Formation Credits but my better judgment tells me I’ve learned all I have to learn in Moody this year. In two days I’ve been told to follow my dreams, embrace opinions different from mine, step out of my comfort zone and remember life is not all about me. I can’t remember a time that I heard a Chapel speech ... [Read More…]
Parking is (not) a problem
The university doesn't seem to believe that we have a parking problem, despite rising complaints in recent years. Instead of adding parking, they've taken away 109 parking spaces in a year that that saw the university experiencing yet another large incoming class. On one hand, ACU has still not provided adequate parking for the rising numbers. ... [Read More…]
