I am not a fan of blanket statements, so I was very disappointed when a letter to the editor on Wednesday included a blanket statement. The letter assumes that every club falsely plays the "Jesus card" and has nothing to do with Christ. I admit that many clubs on campus do not project themselves in a good light, especially in light of recent ... [Read More…]
Your Voice: In response to the October 26 story entitled “Pledging season teaches new perspectives”
Any student on campus is familiar with social clubs and the image those clubs project. The connotation of social clubs doesn't extend far beyond the reaches of parties, T-shirts and friendships-none of which are bad things. But when clubs try and put up a front and say that they exist to glorify God, I say that is a lie. Believe me, the impression ... [Read More…]

By Jonathan Smith, Editor in Chief The university placed the men's social club Sub T-16 on a two-year suspension Oct. 13 after an investigation into alleged hazing violations during pledging activities. Men’s club apologizes for Chapel behavior
As a pledge class, that which we have not sought to do, we have inadvertently accomplished through our actions. We do not deem ourselves higher than the spirit of Chapel, and by our actions we have spoken otherwise. We shamefully acknowledge our disrespect and rudeness when we decided to put ourselves above others. Please accept our sincere ... [Read More…]
Social club steals attention in Chapel
I am disappointed with some people's choices during Chapel this Monday. Randy Harris, instructor of Bible, Missions and Ministry, started a talk about troubles concerning faith. In case you weren't there, Harris stepped down off the Chapel stage, told all the believers to pray and proceeded to relate to the remaining crowd his own struggles with ... [Read More…]
Social clubs, rumor for improvement
By Jonathan Smith, Editor in Chief If I believed everything I hear around campus then one social club pledge could have died in a recent pledging activity, and packs of club members have been roaming the streets of Abilene breaking into other clubs' members' homes, stealing and threatening the physical well-being of others. I don't know whether ... [Read More…]
Felonies, hazing-social clubs investigated
One year ago, six members and pledges of Gamma Sigma Phi stole the Frater Sodalis crest, and clubs don't seem to have learned their lesson. Club rivalries continue to spiral out of control, and include pranks that border on felonies and alleged hazing that ACU police are investigating. Recently, clubs took things a step further and began breaking ... [Read More…]

By Jonathan Smith, Editor in Chief The university's response to allegations about the pledging activities of three social clubs has left one club inactive for the semester, another on probation and another being reviewed for potential hazing violations. The women's social club Delta Theta will spend the remainder of the semester in an inactive ... [Read More…]

Clubs say ‘let the bidding begin’: More than 250 begin pledging season with Bid Night
By Mallory Sherwood, Managing Editor Students ran around campus Friday night and early Saturday as social clubs initiated more than 250 pledges during a weekend filled with secret activities, competitions, food and history lessons. For the first time in several years, all clubs made it through the night smoothly without injuries or ... [Read More…]
