Worship now forced, not mandatory

January 31, 2003 by Optimist Reader

To the Student Body, Faculty, and Administration of ACU: I remember a time when Chapel was about worship and fellowship. Everyday freshman year I would climb the stairs to Section D and sit with my four closest friends. Chapel was about spending time with these amazing people as we worshipped an amazing God. I also remember listening to ... [Read More…]

"We have worked on fitness more during the offseason than anything else," senior women's player Lacy Johnson said. "We did a lot of running, weight training and worked on getting ... [Read More…]

Students hurt by cutting SA speeches

January 31, 2003 by Optimist Editorial Board

The Chapel Programming Team's decision to put off SA candidate speeches until after Chapel is a poor substitute that harms the student body more than it helps. We are in the midst of a nationwide epidemic of apathy and low voter turnout-and on this campus, it's a plague. The worst thing to do would be to remove the last visible vestige of ... [Read More…]

Letter from the Editor: “Under God” not protected under Constitution

January 29, 2003 by Paul A. Anthony

By Paul A. Anthony, Editor in Chief At some point this year, the country is going to get all fired up about the Pledge of Allegiance... again. Last summer, of course, a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals judge in California wrote the majority opinion in a 2-1 vote that declared one phrase-"one nation under God"-in the Pledge unconstitutional. The case ... [Read More…]

Column Like I See ‘Em: FedEx delivers most creative commercial

January 29, 2003 by Steve Holt

By Steve Holt, Opinion Editor When I wasn't laughing at Rich Gannon and the Raiders on Sunday, I was laughing at the commercials. Super Bowl XXXVII contained a plethora of laugh-out-loud moments while the play clock was running, but advertisers again coughed up a pretty penny to make viewers giggle and gasp even more during commercial ... Wildcat losing skid now at five games: Frustrated ACU still winless in LSC South Division

January 29, 2003 by Joshua Parrott

By Joshua Parrott, Sports Writer Missed shots. Busted lips. Lost opportunities. Those three descriptions offer the best rationale for the men's basketball team's blowing of an early second-half lead Saturday night against West Texas A&M, losing to the Buf-faloes 79-63 in Moody Coli-seum. The Wildcats hit the road for a Lone Star Con-ference ... [Read More…]
