Because the SA executive officers do not have a stand on the issues surrounding Chapel, I thought I would share my views.
I believe it is the students’ opinion that the administration should take into consideration.
But heaven forbid the administration actually listen to the students on issues that affect them and not the administration.
We’ve already seen questions dodged, programs cut and Block Tuition “put on hold.”
As students, we are required to attend Chapel. The administration is not required, but if it is stated in their job description, please inform me.
So shouldn’t we have a say in how Chapel is conducted? I do know that there are students on the Chapel Programming Team and that there will be students on the Chapel Task Force.
I think it’s great that we will have them on those committees but they really cannot make impact since they do not have the power to vote. Isn’t it interesting; they can hold a seat but they can’t vote.
Now I have some questions for the students who are reading this.
Did the announcements we had in the past take away from your worship time?
Were the signs promoting events too distracting for you and caused you to lose your focus?
And on the day we had SA candidate speeches, did you feel you wouldn’t meet your quota of weekly Chapel time?
Obviously the administration answered yes to these questions and decided it would be best to cut these from Chapel in order to “maintain Chapel’s worship -based direction”.
I never thought I would have someone tell me how I should worship.
