As the spring semester comes closer to an end, the Intramural Office has kept itself busy with a variety of athletic events taking place at the same time.
Currently, volleyball, soccer, baseball-and last weekend 3-2 softball-have gone on simultaneously, with some game times interfering with others.
Accoring to intramural director Danny Kittley, the influx of sports comes as a result of a four-week delay for flag football last fall.
“It’s all related to the fall weather we had,” Kittley said of the rain that pounded Abilene in October and November during football season. “That pushed basketball back, and as a result everything else was pushed back also.”
Kittley said that all the sports need to be wrapped up by April 20, creating time constraints.
“The only thing we can do is overlap sports with each other,” he said. “It’s not something that’s beneficial to us; it works us to death. But it’s better than cancelling the sports.”
Despite the overlaps, Kittley said he hasn’t heard many complaints from participants.
“Intramurals are usually things that people tend to complain about,” he said, “but I haven’t received any complaints except one comment about it.”
Intramurals wrap up with flag football, which begins in mid-April.
