Social Club Shuffle: New pledging procedures and ranking system change the way ACU social clubs are run.

Changes are few for this year’s pledging season, which begins Sunday with women’s teas.

Invitations will be distributed differently, and men will not have to visit each club in the “tea” format that was used last fall.

In the past, invitations were delivered through the mail, but they will now be processed through the Campus Activities Board office.

“Every person will have one large envelope they will pick up,” Amanda Spell, coordinator of student organizations and activities, said. “It’s a way to make sure everyone gets their invitations.”

Adding the invitations for the hundreds of students who pledge to the daily mail load was a large addition to mail services’ usual work, Spell said.

Those interested in pledging attended a pledging interest meeting on Monday, and the deadline for registering to pledge expires Friday at 5 p.m.

Students can register to pledge online at http://www. acu.edu/campusoffices/studentorgs/socialclubs/registertopledge.html.

“We really do encourage everyone to be at the meeting,” Spell said Monday, “but if they miss the meeting … they can still register.”

Women’s teas will be Sunday, but men will not have a mandatory “tea” or coffee this year.

“The men’s presidents decided not to,” Spell said.

Open rushes begin Tuesday and end Wednesday, Sept. 10. On Sept. 11, prospective pledges can pick up their invitations at the Campus Center ticket windows from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and in the office of student organizations later in the day.

Those rushing look forward to getting to meet and get to know member of the clubs.

“Being a transfer, it’s a great way to get to know a lot of guys,” Chris Field, junior Christian ministry major from College Station, said.

After the first invitation rushes, which run Sept. 11 to the 17, those rushing will rank on Sept. 17; the second round of invitation rushes that will begin Sept. 18 and end the 24.

Those rushing must rank each time or will be removed from the pledging roster.
