Sadie’s provides opportunites

November 5, 2003 by Optimist Reader

Sadie’s Week is quickly approaching, as many of my friends and I have been looking forward to this week since the beginning of the semester.

However, after talking to several ACU women on the subject, they explained that they would not participate, much to my heartfelt disappointment.

I would like to use this forum to encourage all available women to participate in the upcoming “6 Days of Sadies” and to say that, by not participating, many things are being wasted.

By not participating, you don’t allow yourself a fair chance at establishing a quality relationship with one of the vastly outnumbered men at this school. Therefore, you lose the right to make a complaint about the unbalanced ratio of women to men at ACU.

By not participating, the money allocated by various student organizations like the Students’ Association and Campus Activities Team goes to waste. Because you pay fees to such organizations, not participating would be the equivalent of paying for something that you would not use.

Finally, you are crushing the hopes and dreams of many hopeful college men who have been waiting for this day since Welcome Week when they first heard about it.

Please remember that these dates do not have to contain any romantic meaning. They can just be fun group outings. If you do not attempt to use what has been set aside for you, however, then no benefits can come from this exciting time.

In conclusion, the “6 Days of Sadies” can be a very enjoyable time for everyone involved, but it can only be what you make of it. If you choose to make little or nothing of it, then you have only yourself to blame. Make the right decision.

Worry. Confusion. Fear. These are emotions that consume people when processing the concept of war. A student wants answers to peace and looks for it in family, friends, and leaders of the community. Students want answers to their questions and ACU has provided a platform for this.
