A handful of track and field athletes are in Philadelphia competing in the prestigious Penn Relay Carnival.
The meet, which began Tuesday with the heptathlon and de-cathlon, will run through Saturday at Franklin Field on the University of Penn-sylvania campus. The 2004 Penn Relays are the 108th running of the event, which began in 1895.
Wildcat athletes or relays participating include: the men’s 4×400-meter relay team, the men’s sprint medley relay team, Bernard Manirakiza in the Olympic Development mile, Martin Okello in the 5,000-meter run, Olha Kry’vyak in the 3,000-meter run and Adeh Mwamba in the 5,000-meter run.
Many ACU athletes competed in the Mean Green Twilight Invitational in Denton Thurs-day afternoon, but results were unavailable at press time.
Murray sees this weekend’s competitions as important as the season comes to a close.
“This is the last big weekend before conference,” he said. “Next week at [the University of Texas-Ar-lington Invitational] we will only take a few athletes, allowing the rest to get ready for finals.”
