For the large majority of ACU students trying to survive on low-paying jobs and spare change found under couch cushions and in pant pockets, discounts of any sort are appreciated and desired.
In response, a variety of Abilene businesses including, Rosa’s Tortilla Factory, Box Office Video and Cold Stone Creamery, cater to its collegiate demographic with a tactic that keeps customers continually coming back for more: student discounts.
Businesses in Abilene should provide student discounts because, for the most part, they do not lose a significant amount of money for reduced prices on items.
“We don’t lose out on a lot of money because college students order lower-cost food items,” said Jessica Champion, manager at Rosa’s on Cat Claw Drive. “They order things like chips and queso.”
Also, businesses benefit from offering discounts because by slightly reducing its prices, they gain support from the community. Which ACU student hasn’t been to Taco Tuesday or What-a-burger Wednesday?
Most people enjoy a good deal, and many faithfully return to certain restauraunts to take part in their weekly specials.
“We understand students’ financial situation and that they are living on their own for the first time in their lives,” Champion said;”If we can help them come in and eat good food before they have to go home and study, then we will do it.”
Students should take advantage of these opportunities. Support businesses that provide discounted items or flat-rate deals. By faithfully buying their products, students can show the community that we appreciate their services, and encourage all establishments that they would benefit from offering college-student discounts.
For those looking to enjoy discounts on food, movies and other products, students can pick up a Collegiate Card in the SA office. The Collegiate Card is the only discount card program created specifically for college students across the nation, and with the card, students can take an additional 10 percent of purchases made at a list of businesses throughout town.
