Casanova Week mimics Sadie Hawkins

February 27, 2008 by Colter Hettich

By Colter Hettich, Features Editor

For male students who ask a female student on a date, this week ACU is footing the bill.

As part of the first Casanova week, male students can pick up tickets for a free date in the Campus Center every day this week after Chapel.

For more than 10 years, the Campus Activities Board has organized Sadies week- a week when women who ask men on a date get a free outing, compliments of CAB.

Hannah Anderson, junior elementary education major from Waco and CAB officer, said CAB received feedback after Sadies week last year that gave them the idea for Casanova week.

“Boys were complaining that the girl’s weren’t asking guys,” Anderson said. “This year we decided to do something like Sadies week but make the guys do the asking.”

Anderson admits that it is more tempting for a female student to just use the ticket for herself and a girl friend. CAB decided to turn the tables this spring and give the men of ACU their chance to be a Casanova.

Students that missed yesterday’s ice cream at Coldstone Creamery still have three nights to look forward to.

Today, students that get a ticket will enjoy beverages at Starbucks Coffee Co. Tomorrow’s tickets are valid for a game of bowling or minigolf and a $5 arcade card at Primetime Family Entertainment Center. Friday, the last night of Casanova week, students who get a ticket will get a free burrito meal at Sharky’s Burrito Co.

Anderson said tickets are gone everyday within 15 minutes of Chapel’s release.

CAB has a limited number of tickets available for each night: 150 for Starbucks, 250 for Primetime and 200 for Sharky’s. Participating businesses have different strategies and legal capacities for people, Anderson said. The number of tickets available reflects each businesses’ availability more than any other factor.

With participation so far, Anderson thinks students, especially males, like the idea and would like to see it again.

“We just wanted to give guys on campus a week of free dates without the pressure of asking someone on a normal date,” she said.
