Scholarship alleviates traveling costs

March 5, 2008 by Optimist Reader

My name is Tina Tamez, and I am one of the study abroad students here in Montevideo, Uruguay. Back when I decided I wanted to study abroad, I knew that it would be difficult since the cost was so high. Then in December, I received the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. I wanted to take this opportunity to inform students about the scholarship and encourage them to look into ACU’s study abroad program.

We have been here a little over a month now. All of it has been an indescribable experience.

I have been living with 21 other students here at Casa ACU, and together we have been to some crazy soccer games, attempted to surf in the Atlantic Ocean and shopped up and down the avenues of Buenos Aires. The Gilman Scholarship has provided so much for me and has given me the chance to be part of something bigger. I want to encourage students and let them know how very possible it is to be able to study in another country.

Royce Clough and Jael Morel have been named as Mr. and Miss ACU for the class of 2022, a traditional honor voted on by the student body and awarded to two members of each graduating class.
