The Wildcats’ multi-event performers proved their mettle at the New Mexico Classic and Combined Events meet Friday and Saturday; all three posted qualifying point totals for next month’s NCAA Division II indoor championship meet.
Competing at the Albuquerque Convention Center, Jessica Withrow qualified in the women’s pentathlon, placing sixth with 3,653 points. James Hardin and Parker Petty posted qualifying totals in the men’s heptathlon, placing eighth and 13th, respectively.
In the regular portion of the meet late Friday, Kevin Johnson provisionally qualified for the national meet in the 60-meter hurdles. He finished fourth with a time of 8.23 seconds.
Destinee Nixon bettered her existing provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump, finishing eighth with a jump of 38-7 3/4.
The Wildcats also had athletes competing at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at The Armory in New York. They posted several solid performances at that meet, as well.
Amos Sang finished second in the 5,000-meter with a time of 14 minutes, 18.08 seconds. Andrew McDowell tied for the nation’s top time in the 60 hurdles Friday, and finished third in the final at 7.98 seconds.
ACU’s next challenge will be the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., next weekend.
