Chris Thomsen leaves ACU for Arizona St.

December 19, 2011 by Austin Gwin

ACU Wildcat head football coach Chris Thomsen has resigned to accept a the position of Offensive Back Coach at Arizona St.

He joins the staff of newly-hired head coach Todd Graham, and will be on the ASU sideline for the Sun Devils’ Dec. 22 bowl game against Boise St.

ACU Director of Athletics Jared Mosley has already named offensive coordinator Ken Collums as the interim head coach, and the process of finding a new head coach will start immediately.

Thomsen leaves ACU as one of it’s most successful coaches of all time. In his seven seasons at the helm of the Wildcats, Thomsen reached the NCAA playoffs six times and won the Lone Star Conference championship in both 2008 and 2010.

He put the ACU program on the map by producing seven NFL players including Chicago Bears all-Pro wide-receiver Johnny Knox and Cincinnati Bengals running back Bernard Scott.

In Coach Thomsen’s seven seasons, he was named the LSC Coach of the Year four times, including the 2010 season when he led the Wildcats to the program’s first ever 11-0 record.

Thomsen leaves his alma mater with an on-field record of 61-21.
