The construction in the Gardner parking lot will be completed within the week, making the entire lot available for student parking.
The construction in the parking lot north of Gardner is associated with the heating and cooling for the building. The heating, ventilation and air-conditioning team discovered a leak in a pipe a few months ago, and the ACU Facilities Management dug up the pipe and fixed the leak over the Christmas break. The pipes began to leak in the same area a few weeks ago.
Kristian Allen, director of on-campus facilities management, made sure the leak will be fully repaired within the week so the parking lot will be fully accessible to students.
“We left it open until now to make sure that there were no more leaks, and it should be filled with road base within the week,” Allen said. “A permanent asphalt patch will be installed after the road base compacted, but the parking lot will be open.”
Emily Morrical, freshman family studies major from Wylie, feels the construction is a safety hazard for students and should be fixed as soon as possible.
“The construction is a complete inconvenience.” Morrical said. Â “Instead of going straight through the parking lot, there is a road block of construction which leads to the dangerous reversing when looking for a parking spot.”
