The ACU Psychology Club had their first interest meeting last Thursday.
The purpose of the psychology club is to foster community among students of psychology, serve others with integrity and encourage scholarly pursuits.
“My favorite part of the Psychology Club is going out and doing something for our community. We love having community on campus but we also enjoy helping out our Abilene community,” said Hillary Richardson, junior psychology major from Celina and Psychology Club president.
Psychology is the study of behavior and mental processes. The Psychology Department at ACU trains students in the fundamental principles of human development, learning, personality and physiological psychology. Students learn to assess these principles in light of Christian faith, and to apply them to the solving of problems in industrial, clinical, counseling and other settings.
Students in the Psychology Club intend to embrace the ideas of psychology to mold who they are in their community as well as their Christian faith. The psychology majors have many classes together so the Psychology Club is to embrace the community by getting to know their fellow psychology majors.
Jackson Regas, junior psychology major from Sugarland, said, ” I feel like the psychology department is a very close group of people that enjoy being around one another. The Psychology Club is a great opportunity for someone to get involved more deeply in the psychology community.”
The Psychology Club does many interesting things such as service projects to help the community and movie nights for their entertainment.
On movie nights a movie is picked out, then discussion of the psychological aspect of the movie follows. This Friday the Psychology Club will be watching the psychological thriller Shutter Island and having a meal provided for members who come. Afterward they will discuss the movie.
Psychology Club meets every Thursday during small group chapel in Chambers room 107, where they have chapel together and inform members of upcoming events.
It is not required to be a psychology major to become a member of the Psychology Club. The only things needed to be a member of the club is to fill out a form and a $15 fee.
