Friday is the final day for voting for Homecoming Queen from among the 10 senior Homecoming Court nominees. Voting will be open online until 5 p.m.
The Homecoming festivities began when four Kojies, three Siggies, one Kaio, one Zeta and one GATA were kidnapped by the Homecoming Committee two weeks ago to serve as the 2012 Homecoming Court.
The annual kidnapping got the ball rolling for Homecoming next weekend, and the nominees are excited about the Homecoming events still to come.
Ten in all, the president of each women’s social club was nominated along with two Siggies and three Kojie officers.
Samantha Adkins, senior Alumni Relations officer, is in charge of the Homecoming Court and helps organize events that the court members will be involved in.
“It’s an honor to be nominated and usually shows the girls are active on campus and that people think of them in a positive light as role-models,” said Samantha Adkins.
Leigh Foith, senior Ad/PR major from Plano, said she is honored to be nominated and is even more honored to share this experience with the other nominees who represent many different faces of campus life. Foith, Ko Jo Kai historian, is excited for the weekend activities to begin.
“I can’t wait to share the excitement with my parents, grandparents and all the alumni who come back for the event,” Foith said. “The familiar faces in the crowd will make the weekend even more memorable.”
The Homecoming Court will have a full weekend during Homecoming. Next Friday, the court will be introduced during Chapel and will participate in the invitation-only Queen’s Tea held in honor of the Homecoming Court and the Coming Home Court.
On Saturday, the court will participate in the parade and then again be introduced at Chapel. The winner will be crowned during halftime of the ACU Homecoming football game that afternoon.
The nominees for this year’s Homecoming Court will return in 10 years to participate in the homecoming festivities for their 10-year reunion.
In addition to the 2002 Coming Home Court, who will be celebrating their 10-year reunion, Addie Rheiner Felts, ACU’s first Homecoming Queen will return to campus for Homecoming. She was crowned in 1951 and will be representing the 60-year Coming Home Court this year.
Sarah Kelly, senior Ad/PR major from San Antonio, said she has loved getting to spend time with other nominees on the court.
“I am most looking forward to coming back ten years from now and getting to be a part of the court with all of the girls again and getting to meet the nominees for that year,” Kelly said.
Students who wish to participate can vote online at acu.edu/queen.
