A small airplane with one pilot and no passengers crashed in Callahan County, nearly eight miles northeast of Abilene, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety report. The pilot was not injured.
Frank Leroy Bell, 75, of Tuscola, was flying his 1970 Beechcraft 60, a twin-engine, five-passenger plane that measures less than 34 feet long, toward Abilene Regional Airport when he ran out of fuel and crashed. He was trying to land in a plowed field about half a mile south of TX-351, but hit some mesquite trees.
