The ACU softball team will begin Southland Conference play Saturday and Sunday as they travel to San Antonio to play against the University of the Incarnate Word.
The Wildcats are 10-15 going into conference play and are coming off of a four-game winning streak. ACU has spent the last several games on the road and have been competing against tough schools. The team looks forward to beginning conference play and will have more home games than earlier in the season.
Head coach Bobby Reeves is confident with the recent play of the Wildcats and is treating this game with the same mentality as any another game.
“We are going to go into the Southland just like we’ve approached the last couple of weeks” Reeves said. “I tell our girls everyday ‘You need to be the best you can be, each one of you. Be the best you can be that day and we are going to put it together and hopefully get some wins.'”
The Cardinals have an overall record of 11-15 and are coming off of a two-game losing streak. Last season ACU won one game and lost two against Incarnate Word and are looking to bounce back and earn their gain.
“We’re no stranger to Incarnate Word and neither are they to us,” Reeves said. “We are going to go down there with some confidence and get things done to carry over into next week.”
Senior pitcher Peyton Mosley has made an impact on the team’s success in her time at ACU and for this season. Mosley pitched her best game in almost two seasons against Oklahoma City last Tuesday in the second game of the doubleheader.
Coming off of an incredible win against OKC, the Wildcats will strive to continue their winning play into the weekend.
“It’s going to take pitching, defense and offense,” Mosley said. “Right now we’ve really got all three of those things clicking and so that’s what it’s going to take the rest of the way to get there.”
The series against Incarnate Word will start off with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., followed by Sunday’s game at 1 p.m.
