Bowl For Kids Sake to be held this Saturday

Big Brothers Big Sisters will have its annual fundraising bowl from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Abilene Bowling Lanes.

Mallory Ashford, director of events and corporate development for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Abilene, said this is part of a national fundraiser that happens all over the nation.

Saturday’s event is called the College Bowl and is designed for groups of students to raise money together. Groups of four to six can sign up and gather support from social clubs, friends and family.

“The goal is for each team to raise $400,” Ashford said.

So far, 16 teams have signed up to participate on Saturday, and Ashford hopes to get more signed up by Friday.

All funds raised at the Bowl for Kids Sake will go toward Big Brothers Big Sisters programs in Abilene. The focus of these programs is to provide one-on-one mentoring for at-risk youth.

“We want them to grow to succeed in school and their personal life,” Ashford said. “Many of the mentors are ACU students.”

Another incentive to participate is for intramural points.

“Those competing in the overall points competition can receive 20 points for competing,” said Kyle Pinson, director of intramural sports.

Signups for the College Bowl will be available in the Campus Center Friday. There are also online signups at bowlforkidssake.org.
