The Student Government Association has been busy preparing for two big campus-wide events: Litmas, its annual Christmas event, and its first-ever Fall Fest.
The event will combine things SGA has done in the past, but will revolve around the fall season. Fall Fest will take place on Oct. 12-14 and its events are still in the works, yet to be finalized.
“It’ll have anything from a student-run thrift market to pumpkin painting, to a lot of coffee and pie and all of the things that make fall fun,” said Josh Hamm, SGA president.
Tatum Lamberth, SGA’s chief of staff, handles the administrative side of planning events and helps student organizations. Lamberth said that the event will feature fall-themed events.
“I think there’s puppies involved somehow, which will be fun,” Lamberth said. “And then just cute picture opportunities.”
On top of the Fall Fest preparations, the SGA executive team has its Litmas planning in full swing as it works out the schedule and what that day will entail.
“It takes months and months of work to put on an event that size,” said Hamm, senior biomedical major from Double Oak.
Last year, a big portion of SGA’s time was spent making hot chocolate as the demand for it kept increasing on the day of the event.
“The Bean has graciously offered to handle hot chocolate for us this year, which is a super big blessing,” Hamm said. “Our partnership with them is something we look forward to growing, and I am super happy about that.”
SGA is planning a similar setup to last year, including a concert, food and merch; however, Hamm said that this year there will be a fun surprise in terms of Litmas’ aesthetics.
Hamm plans for Litmas to be centered around community and the reason behind Christmas.
“Students love the Christmas season, and so when we get a chance to bring people together,” Hamm said. “It fosters community on campus; it fosters a sense of joy and Christmas spirit.”
Aside from helping plan Fall Fest and Litmas, Lamberth has been working on getting the student senate up and running.
“We’re working on getting the senators used to passing legislation and meeting the specific committees that we’ve put them in for the different campus activities,” Lamberth said.
Each senator has ranked the committee they want to be involved in, with options including the Bean committee, campus life committee, health committee and spiritual life committee.
An example of that is the many renovations that were made to the campus den after legislation was passed at the end of last semester. The den underwent these renovations over the summer, which included the addition of new speakers, new lights, a pool table, a foosball table, many board games and more.
