The men and women’s tennis teams competed last weekend in a home tournament against the Univeristy of New Orleans at the Eager Tennis Pavillion.
The women’s team improved their record to 3-0 as the team defeated New Orleans 4-1, while the men’s team now stands 4-3 as the team fell to the Privateers 2-6.
In singles, senior Brittney Reed, junior Kaysie Hermsdorf and Nada Marjanovic and freshmen Lucile Pothier and Whitney Williams contributed wins. The team swept all three competitions in doubles with partners Hermsdorf/Reed, Walker/Pothier and Williams/Marjanovic.
For the men’s team however, fewer wins in singles and doubles were made. Senior Guilherme Gesser, junior Jason Proctor and sophomore Nico Agritelley won three wins in singles.
“Even though we didn’t come through with the win, everybody competed really hard and gave it their all,” Agritelley said. “The match came down to marcos match at line 6 as the deciding match. So that was really cool to be able to cheer him on for the deciding match.”
Gesser and Agritelley also had the one win in doubles competition. A big contribution to the help of the wins was the crowd and its excitement.
The head coach for New Orleans became irritated at how loud the crowd was cheering. The duo took it smooth and kept their focus, as they too grew excited with the crowd.
“I walked over to the crowd and started cheering with them,” Agritelley said. “I began waving my hands in the air to get them to be even louder. After that, the crowd got even louder than before and that really pumped G and I up for the rest of the match.”
The Wildcats will further their play as the team will travel to College Station this weekend to play Texas A&M University.
