The north side entrance of the McGlothlin Campus Center will be under construction until the start of school in January.
Crews are working on stairs at the entrance of the Campus Center facing the Recreation and Wellness Center. Kevin Roberts, vice president of operations, said the construction should be completed by the start of school in January.
“The landing was setted, it held water and had cracks in it, so it just needed to be redone and repaired,” Roberts said. “We are pulling all the damaged area and redoing that as well as adding in a wheelchair ramp so people can get into that door that is right by the elevator. We are redoing that entrance to improve the accessibility and improve the aesthetics of the area as well.”
The cost of replacing the steps and imputing a wheelchair ramp is being covered by the deferred maintenance budget.
“It’s a pool of money that is put aside every year to deal with campus issues and buildings that need to be updated,” Roberts said. “This year, it was decided that the Campus Center entrance is what needed those funds because of the access to it needed repairing.”
Placed in front of the entrance inside the Campus Center is the schematic design of how the entrance will look after construction is complete.
“I am sorry for the inconvenience of the construction,” Roberts said, “not just the Campus Center, but the construction throughout campus. I know it’s a pain, but it really is going to make campus a better place for a lot of years after this.”
