The African Student’s Association and the International Student’s Association will create a cultural experience for ACU students of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds in an annual fashion show March 5.

This will be the fourth fashion show by ASA and will be assisted by ISA. The fashion show will not only showcase African styles, but also styles and ideas from around the world. The original fashion show was started by Janice Nkrumah, ASA president at the time, and has grown in popularity over the last four years.

In the past, the show successfully influenced students to become more culturally diverse and aware. The event has also contributed to sustaining the ASA.

“It’s a showcase where we don’t only do African clothes, we also do Asian, European, and this year, an American section,” said Elizabeth Oyetunde, ASA vice president. “So it’s showcasing the diverse cultures that we have here on campus.”

Blessing Eke, freshman biochemistry major from Nigeria and model in the fashion show, said the show reminds her of home.

“That’s why it’s so special to me, and makes me personally involved,” Eke said.

The fashion show is a way for students across campus to experience different cultures through a variety of styles. The goal is to open the minds of many students at ACU by providing a cultural experience that most students don’t get to experience at other universities.

“I hope the fashion show will change people’s views on the world and culture,” Eke said. “It depends on if they are willing to let it.”

The proceeds for the fashion show will be donated to a program that helps businesses in developing countries. The cost for entry is either $2 or two non-perishable, canned food items that will be paired with the International Food Festival.
