Three Masters of Accounting students received the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants scholarship award in January.

Stephanie Day from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Brad Schultz from Nashville, Tennessee, and Zach Callaway from Round Rock are this year’s recipients of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants scholarship.

Schultz said the scholarship helps students pay for the last semester of the Masters of Accounting (MAcc) program.

Each year, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants requests Dr. John Neill, chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance, to recommend several students for a scholarship opportunity.

“If he thinks you’ll meet the requirements to apply for it then he’ll send you an invitation to apply,” Schultz said. “I applied for it back in the fall and was informed I was chosen as one of the scholarship recipients in early January.”

Schultz has accepted an offer to start working for Ernst & Young in Austin starting in September.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship award, each student must meet the GPA requirement and have completed the required amount of hours. Day, Schultz and Callaway were all chosen because of their outstanding academic accomplishments.

“ACU really helped with that because as I was applying for it, [the application] asked what your extracurricular activities are, leadership activities and that kind of thing,” Day said. “Being at ACU has really helped me or given me the opportunity to be involved with things that I don’t think I would have otherwise.”

Day will be able to put what she’s learned into practice through being the CFO of Wildcat Ventures here on campus. She plans to graduate from the MAcc program in May.
