Freshmen have the opportunity to spend “A Night on the Town” this Friday at Freshman Formal in the Hunter Welcome Center.
Freshman Action Council (FAC) chose the theme “A Night on the Town” after the 24 freshmen representatives took a vote from 30 different themes.
“Our freshmen do the majority of the brainstorming,” said Bradley Weast, sophomore nursing major from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and FAC upperclassman representative. “We rely on [them] to pick a theme they think their class would really enjoy.”
FAC voted on the theme around the time of Sing Song, which was themed “On the Town” this year. However, it is the goal of FAC for the thematic elements of Freshman Formal to be different from Sing Song.
“We wanted to make it fun and different,” said Abbey Weaver, junior bible major from Lufkin and FAC upperclassman representative. “We’re doing more of a night on the town where it means going out and having fun with your friends, making it feel elegant.”
Freshman Formal will continue the traditions of the past three years, holding the event in the Hunter Welcome Center and using the same DJ from prior years and other ACU events such as the Wildcat Week ’90s dance.
“It will be similar to a combination of the Wildcat Week dance ( ’90s dance as most of us would recognize) and the Christmas social,” said Lauren Franco, freshman convergence journalism major from Euless and FAC member. “There will be upscale desserts, a professional photographer, dancing, a DJ, a really cool backdrop for pictures, T-shirts, and more.”
Tickets went on sale last week. Students were able to purchase tickets April 11 – April 15. Around 350 freshmen will attend the event despite low ticket sales at the beginning of the week.
“We sold about 240 tickets on Friday alone. That happens each year, people tend to forget until that last day so we had to do a ton of advertising on the last few days.”
Tickets will be available at the door for $12. Students who purchase tickets at the door will not be able to receive a Freshman Formal T-shirt. The event begins at 8 p.m.
