United Supermarkets has paired with Wildcat Sports to create a friendly competition among the social club tailgates. With the goal of promoting student involvement at tailgates and other games, the winning club is gifted with a $100 GiftCard to United to be used toward their next tailgate.
GATA President, Kelsee McGee, said her social club used a doughnut wall, a large board with rows of donuts.
“I think we won because of our creativity and original idea: the doughnut wall,” McGee said. “We will try to keep finding ways to incorporate GATA’s unique ideas at the ACU tailgates.”
Sub-T 16 President, Garrett Coppedge, said the competition doesn’t change the way his club’s tailgate is put on.
“We’re going to try to be about as competitive in this competition as we are in sing song,” Coppedge said. “We’re just out there for the good times, to grill out and throw the ol’ pigskin around with the boys. I tell you what, though, get a grill masters type competition going, and Sub T-16 will be the club to beat.”
Ko Jo Kai President, Kennedi Ross, said the friendly competition has the opportunity to achieve its goal by impacting student involvement.
“A competition will promote student involvement and in turn, elevate our tailgates and our school spirit, which is something we desperately need as a newer D1 athletics program,” said Ross.
