A student died after she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle at the intersection of Ambler Avenue and Judge Ely Boulevard Wednesday night.

Casey Ellis, senior social work major from Bethel, Connecticut, rode a bicycle into the intersection westbound on Ambler Avenue against a red light, according to a press release from the Abilene Police Department. At about 10:45 p.m., she was struck by a Ford Focus driven by 19-year-old Charles Schaefer. She was pronounced dead after being taken to Hendrick Medical Center.

Ellis was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
