Gameday leaders ready for football

September 14, 2017 by Ashlan Smith

This weekend will be a weekend of firsts for ACU. Not only will Wildcat Stadium host its first home game, six student directors will bring school spirit to Gameday-related events, each of them holding different responsibilities.

Sophie Morrow, sophomore in speech pathology major from Hico is in charge of coordinating and organizing all the volunteers. Morrow will be the main person to contact when it comes to volunteering for future games.

Trey Dennis, junior management and marketing major from Abilene will run Friday chapel in Wildcat Stadium and will help with load-in and load-out at the tailgate.

Blake Anderson, junior youth and family ministry major from Arlington will assist in managing the volunteers, but for the first home game he will be facilitating the setup for the concert and managing traffic.

Rowdy Riggins, sophomore advertising and public relations major from Abilene will operate the tailgate by making sure everything is running as safely and smoothly as possible. In addition, he will be in charge of security for the firework show.

Sarah Brooks, junior kinesiology major from Lubbock will be working with the social clubs throughout the tailgate.

Bailey Goodenough, senior middle school social studies major from Abilene is responsible for making sure everyone is following the guidelines at the tailgate and NEEDTOBREATHE’s hospitality room.

Morrow sent out an email a few weeks ago about opportunities to volunteer and help with the grand opening of the new stadium. She said they were expecting around 70 volunteers, but instead 235 people signed up.

Morrow said she is excited for new traditions that will live for the rest of ACU’s history.

“We’re super excited about this awesome weekend and the opportunity to be here doing this. It’s our job to help provide an exciting atmosphere for the students, faculty and alumni to enjoy,” said Anderson.

This is only a preview of what these student directors will provide for upcoming home games.
