Soccer prepares for UTRVG in second home game of season

August 23, 2018 by Rachel Poe

The Wildcats will host the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) for its second home game of the campaign.

After taking the victory last Sunday in double overtime against UTEP, ACU is hoping to seal its second-straight win at Elmer Gray stadium.

Sophomore midfielder/forward Christina Arteaga, who scored the game winner against UTEP, said the team is paying attention to detail in order to come out victorious.

“As a team we’re going to look back and see all that we did well on against UTEP and clean up our mistakes as a whole for our upcoming game.” Arteaga said

This will be the second matchup in history between the two teams and the first meeting in four years.

The first game was played in 2014 at San Antonio where the Wildcats won 5-1. UTRGV was still named the University of Texas-Pan American. It was not until 2015 when they merged with the University of Texas at Brownsville and changed their name.

UTRGV split its two opening matches with a 4-1 win against Texas Southern and 1-0 loss against Oral Roberts. UTRGV was picked to finish fifth in the preseason Western Athletic Conference coaches’ poll.

The game is scheduled to begin Friday at 7 p.m.
