This weekend volleyball competed in the Texas State Creeds and Crests Classic and lost all three matches to UTSA, JMU and Texas State.
In the Wildcats Friday match against UTSA, the team lost its first two sets 25-16, 25-20. In the third set, ACU fired back with a 25-21 win, but eventually lost in the fourth set 25-21.
On Saturday, ACU played JMU first and took the first set 26-24, but fell in three straight sets 25-11, 25-14, 28-26 to drop the match.
In the third and final match of the weekend, the Wildcats faced the host, Texas State. Each team split the first two sets as the Bobcats won 25-20, then ACU won 25-22. Texas State came out victorious, however, stealing the third and fourth set 25-18, 25-16.
Sophomore middle blocker Lorin McNeil said regardless of the loss, she feels as though the team is excelling in ways that can only make them better.
“I think we did well with our block moves and staying really organized throughout the play, but I think we still need to focus on finishing the games and also starting off strong.” McNeil said.
Mcneil stood out over the weekend making 11 total blocks. Her teammate, senior middle blocker Lauren Walker, had an even bigger weekend earning 13 blocks against JMU and Texas State alone.
Walker said the team wants to be more aggressive in its next tournament.
“The big focus for us going into next weekend is intensity,” Walker said. “We want to be gritty, loud, competitive and aggressive from point one, and that is something we struggled with this weekend.”
The Wildcats will head to Tulsa on Sep. 7 to compete in the Tulsa Invitational where they will face Tulsa and Oral Roberts. The first game will start on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
