This week the Wildcats were on the road taking on Houston Baptist and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Before this week the Wildcats were on a 6 game win streak in conference but broke it losing both games.
In the first game on Thursday, the Wildcats lost 1-3 against the Houston Baptist Huskies.
The Wildcats won the first set 25-20 but they couldn’t hang on and the Huskies took the next three winning 25-21, 25-20 and 25-21.
Lauren Walker, senior middle blocker for the Wildcats said that although the game ended with a loss they learned that it takes more than just being focused to get a win now.
“We learned that coming towards the end of the season where our bodies are tired, that it takes more than just intentionally and focus,” Walker said. “We have to bring back the love of the game into it.”
They fought hard but had to step up for their next opponent which was Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Walker said that the game plan for the Islanders was to play tough and stay focused.
“Our mentality was to serve tough and for us to stay focused,” Walker said.
The Wildcats went straight from Houston to Corpus Christi to take on the Islanders on Saturday.
All three sets were close but the Wildcats couldn’t clinch a win.
The Islanders won all three sets sweeping the Wildcats 25-23, 25-22 and 25-23.
Marybeth Sandercox, senior outside hitter and right side said that they felt neutral after the Houston Baptist game.
“Our mentality felt neutral,” Sandercox said. “We learned that we have to stay steadfast.”
As a result the Wildcats are currently ranked 4th in the Southland Conference standings.
