Hilltop and Gracenote a capella groups are having auditions on April 24-25.
This academic year was the first that the groups have existed. As Hilltop is a mixed vocals group, there will be six female spots and six male spots available. Grace Note, however, is an all-female group, so they are looking to fill 12 female positions.
The requirements to be a part of the a capella groups: students must be sophomores or older for the upcoming fall semester, have a GPA of at least 2.5, be in good standing with the university and be a full-time student for both the fall and spring semesters of the upcoming school year.
Erin May, Hilltop music director and sophomore bilingual elementary education major from Tulsa, joined the new a capella group this year after being a part of freshman a capella group Foundation last year.
“Hilltop and Grace Note a cappella are both singing groups of upperclassmen that perform a variety of worship and pop music, both on ACU’s campus and in the community,” May said. “A cappella groups frequently lead worship in Moody Chapel, and we perform at big on-campus events, such as Sing Song and TEDx, as well as our own a cappella concerts. In the future, we’re hoping to be able to go on a tour and record an album.”
Nick Tatum, director of student productions, will conduct the first round of auditions. Callbacks will be judged by a panel of musicians from the local community.
“The biggest thing we want people to know about a cappella groups is that these groups are for everyone,” May said. “Even if you’re not in a choir or have never been a part of a singing group before or haven’t performed before, still come out to audition. We want to get to know you and invite you into our a ca-family.”
