The ACU golf team placed sixth overall in the Little Rock Invitational Tournament, with their own Alex Clouse tying for second individually.
Clouse and his teammates were competing against 86 competitors from conference opponents to other schools around the country.
Going into the tournament they had played against some of the schools in previous tournaments and were looking forward to being able to improve on their performance.
“We felt confident going into the tournament,” senior Alex Clouse said. “But most of all we were just overall thankful to be playing.”
Clouse had a positive weekend recording one eagle and 16 birdies, which was a close second to his competitor Fanonnel’s 17.
Going into the tournament Clouse had set some personal goals to focus on throughout play. Most of them were not goals on how many strokes he would take but goals that would help him control what he could control and have confidence in his decision making at each hole.
“As long as I made good confident decisions on the golf course I was going to be happy,” Clouse said. “As a team I think we did a good job focusing on our smaller goals.”
Clouse placed 20th overall in The Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate Tournament, which was the tournament before Little Rock. So coming in and placing second was an improvement in his play.
“I think he was a little disappointed about his play at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate Invitational,” Tom Shaw, Head Coach of the Golf Team, said. “But he took care of business in Little Rock and did a fine job.”
The Little Rock Tournament was ACU’s third and final tournament of the Fall but they will host the 36th annual Byron Nelson Invitational in Fort Worth on Nov. 9. There will be no participants from the ACU golf team in this event.
