The sleepy town of Abilene, though known for being in the middle of nowhere, explodes with tourism only a few times a year. Arguably the most popular time is during Sing Song week. Hundreds if not thousands of family members drive from all over the state to watch the performances, and the motels in town are booked weeks in advance.
Offering a solution to the problem, University Park is offering to let family members of Sing Song performers stay in vacant houses at $25 per person per day, or $125 per person per week. The apartments are fully furnished, with a living room and kitchen including refrigerator, dishwasher and stove. Laundry access is available, and internet is taken care of (though a wireless router is needed, and some are available to be rented at the front desk on a first-come first-serve basis).
The request must be sent in at least a week in advance, and the spaces are limited. These “conference stays,” as they are being called by UP, are available year round, though their most requested time of year is during Sing Song week.
