The women’s basketball team closed out a three game road trip Wednesday evening against Nicholls State, and lost in a one-sided game 81-60.
The Wildcats struggled throughout the game shooting only 38.5 percent from the field, in fact, the team’s three-point percentage was higher finishing at 40. The team also couldn’t outscore the Colonels in any quarter.
After halftime, the women played its worst quarter and only managed nine points in the third as opposed to Nicholls’ 19, which set the Colonels in a comfortable 59-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Obviously, the final quarter didn’t get any better as Nicholls outscored the Wildcats 22-18 to extend its lead and cruise to a victory.
In the losing effort, the sophomore duo of point guard Breanna Wright and guard Dominique Golightly stood out for ACU once again. Golightly led the team in scoring with 14 points and also grabbed five rebounds, while Wright had 13 points and four assists. Senior forward Sierra Allen nearly captured a double-double scoring 10 points and coming down with nine rebounds.
For Nicholls, junior guard Cassidy Barrios put on a strong performance notching a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while also making two steals and a block. Sophomore guard Tykeria Williams also stood out posting 15 points, six assists and two steals.
Nicholls now improves to 10-12 overall and 5-6 in conference after the win, while the Wildcats slip to 14-8 overall and 8-4 in Southland play.
ACU will next return home to face Incarnate Word for its first of two matches this season. The game is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
