The ACU Cycling team participated in the 4th annual Beat the Street in Sweetwater to help benefit Cornerstone Christian School.
ACU Cycling team restarted in January after a short break and has been picked up by ACU Sports as a club sports team.
Justin Rasco, senior criminal justice major from Frisco, wanted to bring back the cycling club, and now it looks like it’s here to stay.
“We started earlier this semester, we kind of rechartered,” Rasco said. “Me and a group of friends decided we wanted to find like-minded people in terms of cycling, so we started a page, and we kind of got that rolling there. Club Sports got a hold of it and said they want it to make it an official organization again.”
Rasco said they are already a part of collegiate cycling and look to start competing against colleges starting next year.
“We are actually already a part of it, we just haven’t started just because we don’t have the manpower,” Rasco said. “We are a part of USA Cycling; we are registered with them, and we are in the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference, so I believe we compete with bordering states of Texas: Oklahoma, Arkansas just a few of those states right there.”
Logan Primm, freshman engineering major from Colleyville, said that the frames on most cyclists prefer are pretty small.
“They’re pretty light, I think mine was roughly around 20-25 pounds so, decently light,” Primm said.
Rasco hopes the cycling team grows after he graduates ACU.
“After I graduate? That is a good question, being a senior, and this starting was one thing I was concerned about,” Rasco said. ”I just want to lay a great foundation, and so we got some guys who are avid cyclers, and I think they will do great once I leave.”
