Previously, the Maker Lab offered workshops in different realms of creative projects. Whether it’s stringed instrument building or crafting Bluetooth speakers, registration spots are quickly taken when a new project is announced.

The new project series accommodates people of varying experience levels. Located in Brown Library’s Innovation Foundry, the tutorial focused on the use of Adobe Illustrator. The class was led by Darren Wilson, director of the Maker Lab.

“We’re trying to catch people that aren’t our normal audience,” Wilson said. “It’s dedicated to software, but is absolutely open for beginners.”

Wilson said the Maker Lab began hosting learning workshops to help all students feel welcome to learn and create.

“We want to lower the apprehension level,” Wilson said. “It’s definitely open to people with no experience.”

During the session, attendees learned how to set up a project on the laser cutter through Adobe Illustrator. The tutorial focused on the software and how it can be applied to projects in the Maker Lab.

Wilson said he plans to help faculty, staff and students gain knowledge of the software and projects that can stem from it.

Wilson said he hopes to see beginners attend more workshops eager to learn about this facet of creating projects in the Maker Lab.
